CANE HILL HARVEST FESTIVAL
NEXT CANE HILL HARVEST FESTIVAL WILL BE

September 19-20, 2009

The 2008 festival is now history.  It was a huge success.
A good time was had by everyone.  We estimate
attendance was over 5,000.  Daren Bobb, news anchor
for Channel 5, Fort Smith, and Garrett Lewis, Channel 5
Chief Meteorologist, said they couldn't  remember when
they had had so much fun.  Visitors enjoyed meeting and
visiting with them.  They assured us they would join us
again next year.

The Cherokee Youth Choir gave a magnificent
performance

A special guest and a big hit on the entertainment
agenda was our Minnie Pearl impersonator.

The new expanded parade was enjoyed by all as was the
Butterfield Stagecoach furnished by the Rodeo of the
Ozarks in Springdale, Arkansas.

And food..........there was plenty of it!!  Food vendors ran
out of food before the 1st day was over and had to
restock.  The all-you-can eat breakfast ladies had to
restock before the breakfast was over both days.  Lunch
was sold out early with homemade pimento cheese,
chicken salad and ham sandwiches and homemade
apple, peach, blackberry and blueberry cobbler.  The
cobblers disappeared like ice in August.

The Dutch oven cook-off, as always, was a huge favorite.
Eight judges selected the winners but we know ALL
contestants were winners.  Darren Bobb and Garrett
Lewis were among the judges.  After the judging, the
cooks served free samples to the public.  They, too, ran
out of food but those who got a sample said the food was
the best they had ever eaten.

The hand-cranked ice cream making was enjoyed by the
kids.  Once it was finished, with free tasting, the ice
cream....well....disappeared like ice cream in the August
sun.

The pie eating contest was hilarious.  One group
included a father, daughter and grandfather.  Do I need
to say the grandfather won?  The contest featured
Chocolate Meringue pies, no hands allowed.

The new children's games and contests were fantastic.
There were sack races, wheelbarrow races, egg races
and many more games with prizes awarded to winners.
Kids were allowed to enter as many times as they wanted
so if they didn't win the first time, they could try again.

We hope everyone will make plans to attend the 2009
festival which will be even bigger and better.  Planning is
already underway.
