Cane Hill Hillbilly Cookers Club is forming a Junior Division to get area
teenagers involved in learning the art of Dutch oven cooking.
The club will teach teens to use Dutch ovens to prepare food in the way
it was done by the early settlers to this area. They will learn to prepare
such dishes as Pinto Beans with Ham, Shrimp Jambalaya, yeast breads as
well as desserts such as Pineapple Upside Down Cake and fruit cobblers.
They will also learn how to cook their own favorite recipes in a Dutch oven.
There will be cook-offs where the youngsters will compete for prizes. An
added benefit will be that they can cook for their families on camping trips,
during power outages or just for fun. Junior cooks can either cook solo or
they can organize in teams of from 1 to 3. The club will be sanctioned by
the International Dutch Oven Society. CLASSES ARE FREE TO
CHILDREN AGE 13 TO 18.
